PE and Sport Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

In September 2018 we joined the York School Sports Network to develop opportunities for participation and competition at all levels.

The DFE PE and Sport Premium is funding which is allocated to schools to help provide quality PE and games opportunities and provision.  For the academic year 2017-18 our school  has received a grant of just over £10 000 to date, which has been allocated as follows:

  • £3584.88 funding for 1 day per week of one of the cluster sports coaches, to work across the classes and with different staff to provide training and coaching
  • £1500 school subsidy for transport to access swimming lessons at Thirsk Pool so that all children from Reception-Year 5 can learn to swim
  • £1037 to Easingwold School to pay towards the Easingwold Cluster Competition Co-ordinator, who plans and runs all the area sporting events.  These may be competitive opportunities such as cross country or netball, that feed into the North Yorkshire School Games; or fun events such as the KS1 Fun Run
  • The remaining sum has been used for additional external training and development; purchase of new or replacement resources; to assist in funding to enable all to access outdoor and adventurous activities through our residential visits and to ensure that transport costs are reasonable and accessible to all
  • Ensuring additional provision so that all Y6 pupils in 2017-18 are able to reach the new standards for swimming, including swimming at least 25 metres, using a range of strokes effectively and performing safe self-rescue

For the rest of 2017-18 we will continue to prioritise access to opportunities for all children due to our rural location and limited transport links in the local area.  In the future we would like to develop the court area into a Multi-Use Games Area with upgraded facilities for long-term benefit to the school.

Since the introduction of the PE and Sport Premium funding we have had 100% participation in our PE activities, including all children being able to swim at least 25 metres by the end of KS2.  We have also had successful individual performances, with children reaching finals in cross country and tag rugby.

In 2015 we gained awarded the Bronze School Games Mark, followed by the Silver School Games Mark in 2016.
